And We're Back!!

So things have been super crazy in the Boo and Bel household the past couple of months. I'll give you all the gruesome details of Bels arrival soon, but I wanted to catch you all up on what we've been up to!

Breastfeeding and Weigh-ins

Bel latched on really quickly after birth and had a pretty serious feed, the midwives managed to sneak her off to be weighed and measured and then she jumped right back on. The first 48 hours were pretty much a blur of her desperately feeding to bring my milk in and get the colostrum out of the way, by day three there was no doubt I had milk (and oh boy did it hurt!!)

With her being small the midwives and health visitors were pretty on the ball about weighing her, she was at her lowest point on day 3 but only lost 7.2% of her body weight, before day 10 she was back at birth weight and by 7 weeks we'd hit 8lb 8oz and they stopped with the constant weighing. The Dr's professional opinion is that she's a greedy pig, mine is that my boobs are Gods!

Sleepless nights and Zombie Mummy

Bel likes to feed in the evenings and this has a nasty habit of carrying on most of the night. Occasionally she'll sleep through (and don't my boobs know it) but for the most part in an attempt to get at least some sleep I've taken to cosleeping with her. She favours the centre of the bed with as much enthusiasm as my husband does so she and I have mostly moved into the nursery where we've been camping out on the floor.

Unfortunately that old adage 'sleep when the baby sleeps' was not meant for people who also have toddlers. Boo doesn't sleep in the day and whilst Bel doesn't tend towards night sleeping I'm mostly existing on the few sweet hours I manage on Saturday and Sunday mornings when Bel does sleep and Boo is downstairs terrorising daddy!

It's Mine, It's Bel's

Bel has never really had a cause to share, so I was a little concerned that she would be possessive over all the things but she's actually been pretty good. Bel is hers, and she sometimes gets a bit upset of strangers pick her up, but other than that she's more worried about ensuring that the things that are Bel's are with Bel, than with ensuring that Bel doesn't end up with her things. Except blankets. I never expected blankets to be a problem but they're a real bone of contention, if Bel is put under (or heaven forbid in) one of Boo's blankets with out first speaking out Boo's permission all hell breaks loose, and it's not a pretty sight!!

Photoshoots

We managed to swing a Cherubs photo shoot package, and for £29 we had a photoshoot within the first 2 weeks of Bel's birth, and we'll have another when she's sitting and another when she's about a year. The package comes with a picture from each shoot for free but we forked out to get all the photos from all three shoots. There's a mixture of pictures of just her and pictures of the four of us.

Nursery Nurses and stubborn Speech

Boo's speech is a little delayed (read she can't much be arsed with speaking and would rather use a string of horrific noises than recognisable words) so we've got a nursery nurse in who is evaluating her communication. She's agreed with us that Boo's understanding and comprehension are fab, but she's painfully shy, and has no need to talk when people react instantly to the horrific noises to make them stop (seriously, if you thought nails on a blackboard hurts try listening to a 2 year old slurp herself into a gagging fit, you too would fill juice bottles with the closest liquid to just make it stop!)

Potty Training

Potty training has come on leaps and bounds in the past few weeks. We gave up with pull ups (at least during the day) they're a ridiculous invention, why on earth would you willingly use the potty or toilet if you can pee in your knickers without consequence and carry on with whatever important toddler thing you were doing? We went to good old Sainsbury's and she picked out lots of pretty knickers with cats and flowers on (the symbolism isn't lost on me, it will be a long while before she understands!) and after a few days of her peeing all over my living room carpet she caught on to the fact that seeing in your knickers is wet and yucky and she's been using the potty with great enthusiasm since. The mattress protectors that Huggies do have been a godsend here, we used them to cover the sofas and as a mat to go under the potty for the occasions where we don't quite make it in time.

Slimming World

My weight is starting to spiral a bit, and I've never been that great at dieting. I have joined slimming world and have lost half a stone in the first 5 weeks. It's proving quite useful for switching a few of my awful eating habits (that full sized tub of Ben & Jerry's I'd been policing off each night is almost a weeks worth of syns!! But kicking the take aways is proving a little harder, especially now I have the space to eat them...

So that's what we've been up to here at Boo and Bel, what've you lovely people been up to?
