We saw the midwife again this week, we had a lovely stand in midwife who made all the right shocked nosies about the speed of my last labour, she suggested that if my waters break, or pains start I should contact the delivery suit straight away and be prepared to head straight there, if I feel any need to push I should not move and the delivery suite would send an ambulance and midwife in my direction!
Bel is now 3/5 engaged which is a fab step in the right direction, all my samples and tests have come back dear and I'm on the 50th centile by fundal height so it was all good news! Next weeks scan will be the real test though, seeing where she is by the scan measurements will tell us what the plan is going forward, and whether I need to panic at the idea of going into natural labour.
We also had an Antenatal class, this focused on baby's first week of life, but mostly on Breastfeeding and nappy changing. I was quite surprised, I had never really been aware of the 'pressure' to breastfeed, but I saw it in full force at the antenatal class. The hospital no longer provides formula for people who aren't intending to breastfeed. There is a room available to make up formula, but you have to take your own milk (milk powder insinuated rather than premade formula milk), bottles and sterilising equipment (as if the space in the hospital bag wasn't at a premium enough?) It was also indicated that making up formula when you've just given birth, in a new usual environment was something stressful and scary, and for the stress factor alone, you would clearly be planning to at least try breastfeeding. Whistle I understand that we've all heard 'breast is best' I can't help but feel that people who are planing of formula feeding have made an informed decision, and should be supported as such... We did get some fantastic advice on breastfeeding though, and I noticed a number of things that we did wrong with Boo that no one picked up on, so I can make adjustments with Bel to prevent them happening.
There was some mention of the complications that can arise in labour that weren't mentioned last week, which filled me with some confidence, but again, induction was indicated to be a thing that only happens when you're dangerously overdue, which isn't the case.
Other than the appointments we've had a fairly uneventful week, my joints have been pretty bad, so we haven't really ventured far! Check in to see how things are going next week!
