Gousto makes it super easy to put your account on hold, and sends you a weekly update with the next weeks meal options. I take a quick peak every time they come through and my interest was peaked by a rather interesesting combination of Palm Heart Risotto, Beat Burgers and the old classic Pork with Parsnip Mash.
It arrived on the Wednesday, and included a potato brush that I'ms sure I shouldn't have been quite so excited by...
The first meal we tried was Pork with parsnip mash. the mash as actually made with a blend of parsnips and butterbeans, and there was a creamy tasting leek side too, it was really nice, and I'd defiantly do the leeks and mash like that again, the pork was only seasoned with salt though and I felt it needed something a bit more, it was definitely a lovely meal though, and the ingredients to make it are on next weeks shopping order!
The second meal we tried was the beat burgers. I have to admit, I picked this because it looked interesting, but I wasn't all that sure I was going to like it, the beet burgers, relish and dressing were gorgeous, though following the instructions I rather cremated the accompanying wedges! Even my husband enjoyed the burgers, and he's a meat eater through and through who normally feels cheated if there's no meat on his plate, he raved about them to his parents! I did find that the whole thing did take a lot longer than the indicated 40 minutes, I think possibly closer to an hour and 20 minutes(!) but my husband was on his way home from work at the time, so I was having to keep Boo entertained (and stop her helping herself to the raw ingredients) whilst cooking, again the majority of the ingredients are on my shopping order, but I think i'll skip making the wedges in favour of what we've got in the freezer.
The last meal was Palm Heart Risotto. I was expecting this to be a bit hit and miss, if you've read my other food reviews you'll know I'm a bit particular about risotto, so it was going to need to be spectacular to be better than the dishes I'm used to. I have to admit I'd never heard of a Palm Heart before (which was my main reason for picking the dish), and to be honest I won't be rushing out to fill my cupboard with tins of them, they're pretty non. My husband suggested perhaps they were there to bulk up the recipe without heavily adding to the calorie content, but they do seem like a strange thing to centre a recipe around. The dish wasn't unpleasant, but I won't be rushing to make it again.
The three meals were well rounded and interesting, I'm still very happy with Gousto and will be keeping an eye out not he menus to buy another interesting week!
If you're interested in giving Gousto a try yourself, the code CLAIR30433 will give you a whopping £25 off your first order, there are some fantastic dishes coming up in the next week, so do take a look!
