Pregnancy Update Week 31: The Maternity Leave is in Full Swing & We Have Another Scare

It seems my life doesn't have a shortage of drama at the moment! My last working day before maternity leave was on Saturday, and on Sunday morning I started getting what felt like muscle cramps on one side of my bump, they carried on on and off throughout the day, every half hour or so, and after a lovely lunch with my parents I went to have a bath, because baths are meant to be some sort of cure all. The bath made things much worse however, and after getting out I timed the crampy-tightenings for a period of an hour to find them to be an average of 6 minutes apart, and lasting on average 45 seconds. Delivery was phoned and we went into full battle stations mode! My Mum-in-law came to look after Boo, and my mum came to pick up my husband and I. I emptied out all the hospital bags and made one bag that was a combination of the three, pouring the left overs into the big suitcase and changing bag for someone to bring in if I did deliver over night.

Once we got to the hospital I had all the usual bp, temperature urine same etc checks done and got hooked onto the monitor. Baby was fairly happy, and the tightenings weren't consistent with labour. They did a quick test and it came back that it was fairly unlikely (1% chance) that I would go into labour in the next ten days and my cervix was as it should be for 31 weeks. The only alarming thing they found was that baby is still measuring pretty small by hand measurements, but we'll have a better idea this week as to how baby is really doing as we've got another growth scan coming up on Thursday. I was given paracetamol... then codeine... then Oral Morphine to ease the pain, and the oral morphine helped me get a little sleep which did wonders, a trace in the morning showed that the tightenings had pretty much stopped so I was given breakfast and sent home.

Now I am officially on holiday, I've not had time to get bored yet, but I've got 5 more weeks of this before my maternity leave even starts, and if heaven forbid I go overdue as much as another 5 and a bit weeks before the baby comes, so there is plenty of time.

As I mentioned, next week I've got my second growth scan. This is the time that Boo started to drop off the normal growth chart, and with the manual measurements being so behind now I'm quite anxious about the upcoming scan, I will breathe a sigh of relief once we know either way, I hate hate hate not knowing.

I've got a few projects to get done over the rest of the pregnancy; The hospital bags are mostly packed, but I need to give them a final check over and get them finished, and I really should get the baby clothes sorted, especially the teeny tiny ones! I've found a bag for my husbands bag too so I'll get that packed whilst I'm at it, then he just needs to grab the usual keys, wallet, phone if something unexpected happens again.

I'm slowly working through washing all of the clothes from storage, putting a large pile of whites aside to finish dying after the scan next week, this will all go into my bottom drawer until Boo has a new set of draws and Bel can have her current set.

Which leads us to really needing to get a wiggle on with sourcing new furniture for Boo! The carpet's going down in the nursery within the next few weeks, and once that's down we'll start getting all the bigger bits of newborn kit together in one place. The crib can go up in there so it's ready for when we need it but otherwise out of the way, and we need to dig out the travel systems car seat.
